5 Best Running Routes in NYC

New York City is one of the world’s best places to take a run. When you get off the streets and into one of the running routes in any of the five boroughs, you’re sure to have a great time.

Here are the spots you’ll want to try if you’ve just moved to NYC or are planning a visit soon.

1. Van Cortlandt Park

This spot is perfect for the times when you want to take a run without feeling like you’re in the city. You’ll start a 3.5-mile loop when entering the park, passing by a few local landmarks along the way. 

2. Riverside Park

When you take a run between 72nd and 158th here, you’ll be right along the Hudson River. The breeze coming off the water stays cool, even during the summer. You can also access public restrooms throughout the route or add some variety to your workouts with the various stops. 

3. The Highline

You’ll want to have an early run here to avoid the crowds, which means arriving right at 7AM. It’s a 1.5-mile linear route with lots of transportation choices at both ends. If you need a breather, several benches along the trail can let you take a quick break.

4. Prospect Park

Although it’s only 585 acres, you’ll discover multiple running trails to enjoy. Several track clubs head out there weekly, allowing you to enjoy some organized races. It’s also the place where everyone brings their dogs, so bring your best friend along for a jog. 

5. Battery Park City

You’ll get fantastic views of Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty, and the entire harbor when running here. If you run the entire Esplanade, you’ll cover 12.3 miles. That means you’ll want to stock up on products from Premier Research Labs to encourage your sports and fitness routines!
